Hang Gliding School in France: Initiation and Progression Courses

The Hang Gliding School in France

Delta-Aventure is the base camp for everyone who wants to learn to fly a hang glider in France, and more generally for all enthusiasts of gliding with flexible and rigid hang gliders.

Delta-Aventure is an associative school certified by the FFVL (club number: 03165), where state-certified instructors, who fly both tandem and in competitions, teach hang gliding.

Our philosophy: "Use the best flying site suited to your level at the optimal time of year" for rapid progression and, above all, with solid, high-quality technical skills!

Our initiation courses take place at the famous Saint-Hilaire du Touvet site, and our progression courses are held between Annecy, Saint-Hilaire, and Millau. This school is an open and vibrant place that encourages meetings, exchanges, and projects.

Our Hang Gliding Courses

We organize courses from initiation to performance levels at the most suitable flying sites (Annecy, Grenoble, Millau).

We use recent equipment tailored to your progression.

Hang gliding training is based on instructional tandem flights, slope school sessions, and soon winch practice, allowing you to quickly develop good habits.

We are available year-round upon request for initiation days or customized courses, available by the day.

FAQ: How to Learn Hang Gliding

At what age can you start flying a hang glider solo?

The minimum legal age to learn to fly a hang glider solo is 14 years old.

Do you need equipment to learn to fly a hang glider?

No, the school provides all the necessary equipment to learn to fly.

How much does an initiation course in hang gliding cost?

An initiation hang gliding course costs 750 euros for 6 days.

The course includes the loan of equipment (wing, harness, helmet).

It’s also possible to learn on a flexible schedule, attending when you’re available to progress at your own pace and pay per session!

It does not include: accommodation and FFVL insurance.

What physical conditions are required to learn hang gliding?

Hang gliding is a sport, but you don’t need to be a top-level athlete!

The minimum requirements are the ability to run dynamically for about 30 meters and to carry a hang glider weighing approximately 20 kilos on your shoulders, which requires a minimum level of muscle tone.

Before a hang gliding course, it’s wise to get back in physical shape (running, strength training).

How fast does a hang glider fly?

The speed range of a hang glider is very wide, which makes it an exceptional flying machine.

The minimum speed of a hang glider is between 25 and 30 km/h (the stall speed). The "cruising" speed is between 30 and 35 km/h.

The maximum speed varies greatly: a beginner’s wing can reach 60 km/h, an intermediate-level wing can hit around 100 km/h, and a competition wing can easily exceed 130 km/h at maximum speed!

Is it difficult to pilot a hang glider?

No, a hang glider is piloted by shifting the center of gravity through body movement. It’s not "hard," but it does require a minimum amount of effort.

Hang gliding is primarily a mental challenge, accepting the act of flying and being alone in the air.

How can a hang glider fly for a long time without a motor?

If the weather conditions are suitable, in flight, you can use "thermal updrafts," or commonly called "warm air currents," which allow you to climb higher and thus fly longer.

Why is hang gliding cool?

Hang gliding gives you incredible sensations for several reasons:

The prone position: You fly in a position that provides an exhilarating glide, like a bird.

The possibility of speed: You can reach high speeds in a hang glider if you choose to.

Piloting: In hang gliding, you pilot with your body, which is a highly intuitive way to fly.

The community: The hang gliding community is full of extraordinary people; you’re sure to have a great day when you go flying!
